Pastor - Rev. Brent Porterfield
Rev. Brent Porterfield has served in a variety of church leadership roles in the local church, in higher education ministries, international missions and social agency administration. “I am very excited to be a part of the work of the United Methodist Church in these challenging times,” Porterfield said. “The Methodists in Somerville have led in the spiritual life of Fayette County for nearly 200 years. We are a vibrant community of faith with worship and service opportunities for all ages. My wife Melissa and I feel blessed in our welcome to Somerville and look forward to being active citizens in the community.”
Somerville First United Methodist Church meets for worship at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings for a casual praise service and at 10:55 a.m. in the historic sanctuary for a traditional celebration. The Youth and Children of the church meet on Wednesday evenings, and all ages gather for Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. after the early service. Join us!

Initially playing both organ and piano, Sarah Belle accompanies the traditional service by playing congregational hymns and inspiring offertories. After graduating from Fayette County High School, Sarah Belle earned a BA in Music and English from Lambuth College and an MEd from the University of Memphis. She taught in the Fayette County public school system for 8 years and has taught at Fayette Academy for 47 years.
Organist - Jon Settlemires
Administrative Assistant - Payton Watkins
Payton Watkins has been with us here at SFUMC since Spring 2019. She attends Warren Community Church where she sings on the praise team, and is very active in assisting their student ministry. "I have been singing since before I could even talk! Being able to use my God-given abilities and talents for His glory brings me so much peace and joy. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time being the Administrative Assistant here at SFUMC, and I can't wait to see the opportunities it continues to bring me!"
Payton has been married to her husband, Davis, since June 2016, and they have two dogs together, Bucky and Bear. They reside here in Somerville, and love doing life and serving the Lord together.
